Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Basics
For Small Business
by Suzanne Engels, WebArtNTech
Many small business owners do business by name. When you meet people, they remember your name. When others refer you or your business, they will pass along your name or your business name.
With this information, people will ‘google’ you in one of two ways – personal name or business name. You want them to find you.
The basic concept of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is:
Give Google what Google wants.
And what Google wants is to see your name, your business and relevant keywords about your business on the Web.
The best places to place SEO keywords are -
- Your website
- Your blog
- Facebook Business Page
- Local Maps
Therefore the first thing to do in optimizing a site (SEO) is to place these two key phrases - business name and personal name - in the title tags and metatags* of the relevant web pages. At WebArtNTech, it is our first step for every client.
Some tips: Sprinkle your name everywhere on the Web. Add bylines with your name to every article you write, every entry in your blog, in testimonials, next to the copyright symbol etc.
Use your business name and website link in your Facebook profile, LinkedIn profile and in your discussion group postings.
If you want to get well-known on the web, do not skip the basics. All it takes is a little time and effort and has very good payback.
