vinos tintos - red wine
vinos blancos - white wine
copa de vino - wine glass

Pisco Sour - Whiskey Sour distilled from muscatel grapes. Typically the mix is pisco(a Chilean whiskey, although Peru claims it too), lemon juice, sugar and egg white.

Carmenère grape is unique to Chile. We've found a few bottles back home.

Congrio is translated as eel, however it's more like a thick, firm cod, not oily like I think of eel. It's large and flat, like a filet, not round.

Locos - a bigger version of abalone. Frank had 3 ceviche in a loco's shell.

albacore is swordfish, not tuna.

postres - dessert

queso - cheese

empanadas - meat pies sold everywhere, especially from the street vendors

fruits - apples, pears, kiwis, all peeled! Other fruits that I didn't recognize. Blueberries, which at home in January/Feb come from Chile, are out of season.

avocados are everywhere! Hot dogs and hamburgers are adorned with ketchup, mustard and avocado spread - very colorful. Avocado salad was on every menu.

beer - local beers are Cristal and Escuda, both light-tasting, clean and refreshing.

papa fritas - french fries
